In the wake of the terrifying surge in highly violent crime over Labor Day weekend—when in the city as a whole some
67 people were shot, 13 of them fatally; a substantial number of both occurring in East Flatbush and Crown Heights—Councilmember Mathieu Eugene is organizing what his office describes as an emergency public forum on the topic. The event will be held at Middle School 2 (
655 Parkside Avenue, between Rogers and Nostrand Avenues) next Monday, September 19, starting at 6 p.m.
Officers from the police precincts affected by this violence, as well as elected officials, community and religious leaders, and elected officials (in addition to Councilmember Eugene) will be in attendance.
Among those now scheduled to appear are: Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, State Senator Eric Adams, Assemblywoman Rhoda Jacobs, Assemblyman Karim Camara, and Councilmember Letitia James.
