Free Community Events: Job Fair, Health Fair, Weatherization Assistance
Three particularly important community events this week, all of them free:
- Job Fair (Tues., 3/22/11): Sponsored by Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke and held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club at 2245 Bedford Avenue (between Erasmus St. & Snyder Ave.). Representatives from private employers of many stripes, as well as city, state, and federal agencies will be on hand. RSVP here. More information here.
- Weatherization Assistance Program (Thurs., 3/24/11): Sponsored by Sustainable Flatbush and Neighborhood Housing Services of East Flatbush, this event will be held at the Lenox Road Baptist Church (corner of Lenox and Nostrand Ave.) between 6:00 p.m. and 8 p.m. highlight the free resources (worth thousands of dollars) that are available to lower your heating and cooling costs through the federal government's Weatherization Assistance Program. Representatives from the Community Environmental Center will be on hand to offer their expertise. As a press release from Sustainable Flatbush notes: "Income-qualified homeowners receive these benefits at NO COST."
- Health Fair (Sat., 3/26/11): A collaboration among many groups and elected officials, among them State Assembly Member Karim Camara and City Councilmember Albert Vann, this event is being held at P.S. 138 at 760 Prospect Place (between Nostrand Ave. and Rogers Ave.) from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Free services being offered at the event include cancer screenings, dental checkups, blood pressure testing, diabetes screenings, and HIV/AIDS testing.
